Men ruled American society for generations, and still do in many parts of American society. Many men who are running the country, in politics, in the business world, and in US churches grew up when women were considered intellectually inferior, physically weak, emotional, and when women were expected to become primarily wives and mothers. Older US men were taught to protect women and make decisions for them. Many US women of the same generation were taught the same thing, and quite a few still believe it as well. The younger generations believe less of the stereotypes about the inferiority of women, but still believe some of the gender stereotypes.

Plus there's been a powerful backlash promoted by the conservative "traditional" parts of our society, who promote the superiority of men, believe in the inferiority of women, and hate feminists and anyone who promotes equality. They have a lot of power and money to promote their anti-woman agenda, so they definitely have an affect on progress for both men and women and society at large.

A romanticized view of neo-paternalistic attitudes towards women they (the men) have interpreted as chivalry instead of patriarchy. Patriarchy, like a class system, looks very different to the victims than it does to the victimizers. They can fantasize it was desirable.

We are in a transition from a patriarchal society to an egalitarian society. It is not really a patriarchal society anymore. Women have more power so when women have a better position, they can't rely on the 'poor me, I'm a victim' card as much. Some women are truly victimized, such as battered women, prostitutes and assault victims. Others are not. They put up with situations they can leave or change. It may not be their fault but they refuse to do something about it.

Criticism of some female behavior, particularly damaging, counterproductive, excessive behavior, doesn't constitute a form of misogyny. Academic elitism by radical matriarchal feminists (Andrea Dworkin, Gloria Steinem, Kate Millett and others) has encouraged some women to think they are superior but also victims all the time. How can anyone be a victim and be in control all the time? Egalitarian moderate feminists (Camille Paglia, Naomi Wolf, Susan Faludi, Betty Friedan, Germaine Greer) do not espouse these views.

Where? In this forum? I don't think there are really all that many true misogynists, or misandrists. Extreme hatred to the point of pathology is not all that common. Behaviours exhibited in here and in the world indicate negative sterotypes, sexism, and mythology, but not misogyny. Not that there isn't a lot of misogyny in the world. Systematic rape in war torn countries; violence toward women in the home; denial of basic human rights as women; female infanticide...there is misogyny, it's just that when that word is applied to every sexist behaviour, it loses its power to connote what happens when real misogyny is at play. There are a lot of ignorant, sexist, rude, arrogant people, but most of them are not misogynists.

There are just as many women who hate men. It comes from bad experiences, or dependence on stereotypes. People try too hard to emphasize the differences between the sexes and call them inherent when most of them are learned behaviors.

Also, within the past 100 years in this country, men and women were not even remotely equal under the law. This is pretty recent history, so the mindset that created that system still exists. Men feel threatened by women who are given positions of authority over them. Like racism, I expect it will take a few more generations to flush out the attitudes that result from the struggle for legal equality.

Just the way the world is. Anyway, there are just as many misandrists out there.

Why not try and see the good in people(especially men) for a change?
I get knocked down at times, but heck I'll still keep trying to understand.

Because everyone needs a hobby. Lately the trend is toward misandry and misogyny. Maybe next year we'll be bored with it and try something else. I'm already starting to like women again!

"Backlash" by Susan Faludi.

And the fact that they are losers (but too dumb to realise it):

'U.S. psychology researchers have published a new study that explores how people manage romantic relationships.

University of Illinois Professor R. Chris Fraley and graduate student Amanda Vicary looked at the choices people make in their dating relationships, focusing on how each partner's outlook influences his or her choices and satisfaction with the romance.

The online study took participants through a series of scenarios about a relationship with a fictional partner. Each scenario ended with two options, from which the participant chose his or her response.

"The interesting thing is that all the participants were reacting to the same person, the same scenario," said Vicary. "And yet the pattern of their responses was quite different."

The researchers found a study participant's attachment style -- secure or insecure, anxious or intimacy-avoidant -- was a good predictor of the pattern of his or her choices.

"People who are highly insecure are more likely to interpret their partners' actions in a negative way and then choose to respond in kind," Vicary said. The most secure individuals more often chose the positive, relationship-enhancing options.

The study and its findings are detailed in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.'

Because American women are manipulative and cruel in ways that can't be measured in the sense of black eyes or a domestic violence rap. They specialize in emotional blackmail from child rearing to adult relationships.

You should note that there are as many misandrists in American society as misogynists.

There is a huge difference between anti-feminism and misogyny. Feminism doesn't necessarily serve women's best interests or speak for most women. Nazism didn't serve the Germans' best interests, either. Communism didn't serve the Russians very well, and the Spanish Inquisition didn't serve the interests of religious Spaniards. Feminism is just an ideology. Women are people.

Honey, there are so many misogynists becasue so many women act like total stuck up bitches. Men are fairly simple, and so are women. Men want sex, women want money, and security, while at the same time pretending that they are not really prostitiutes. Women want men who are strong, brave, rich, and willing to overlook the fact that women jerk them around. And,of course, faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap the tallest buildings in a single bound, etc. Women fanatsize about the perfect man...he doesn't need to have a face. Men fantasize about the girl next door, wanting to have sex with him. That's not so hard is it? Well, I guess it is....and now you know why there are so many gay and bisexual men.
