garage sale, donate, consignment shop, place an ad in the newspaper or work??

I just had a garage sale and I have a TON of stuff leftover. I can't afford to give it all away...just wondering what ya'll do with stuff.

I live paycheck to paycheck and need to sell this stuff to get stuff for my daughter down the road. I don't make enough to itemize on my taxes, so donating it is not an option. Some of it was used in the first place, but is still in good shape. I buy stuff mostly from Wal-Mart as that's all that I can afford.

If you can't afford to give it away, your best bet is a consignment shop if you've already had a garage sale. But wait a couple of weeks and have another one, maybe different people will come by and pick up the rest of it. If you really just can't sell it, donate it to a children or family or abused women's shelter, they will be grateful to get it and you can use it as a tax deduction if you itemize.

I don't know where you live, but in Chicago you can call the Salvation Army for a pick up service. They even take couches, tvs, beds, kitchen sfuff, anything you want to get rid of they will pick up. And then you tell them how much it is worth and they write you a ticket to write off in your taxes. They usually let you determine the cost, which is awesome! That's what I have done with my past garage sales. If you can't get pick up service why not post an ad on craigslist.org for free stuff to whoever picks up first or you can charge for the stuff that you think you can get money for. Or how about just a drop off at you local thrift shop? You may have to call and ask first what they take/need, but usually people are glad to get anything you throw out! And they usually give you a tax write off as well. If you think you can sell it, e-bay is always available! Good luck!

Garage sale. Ebay. Donate it to charity (thrift shop) and get a receipt and use the value as a tax write of. Sell stuff in penny-saver (local green sheet paper to buy/sale/trade) Have ANOTHER garage sale later or take your stuff to a flea market.

You could always donate it to charity, and take a tax deduction at the end of the year. Unlike people that attend garage sales don't mind offering you half what you ask, charities don't usually mind giving you a receipt for whatever value you put on the item.

There are companies that will sell it on ebay for you and then you don't have to be bothered with it, or you can sell it on ebay yourself. I've also heard of craigslist.com. You can always have another garage sale at 50% off the price marked....everyone loves to buy a bargain even if they don't need it.

We have literally donated truck loads of stuff to Goodwill and then use it as a tax write off. So you don't get immediate money, but it will help your taxes at the end of the year.

If you MUST make a buck, craigslist.org is the way to go. It's local and free.

Think about this one point if you will. You say you can't afford to give it away, but you don't want it any more. That's kind of a contradiction is it not? Think of how many out there who could benefit from what you no longer need.

Hey I've got nothing against making a dollar. If you need the money go for it. If you don't want the stuff anyway well......

Get creative and use your mad DIY skills to make cool new clothes, accesories, purses and pillows for yourself or to sell at a local craft fair or your next garage sale, give them to your cousins (Hand-me-downs rock!), donate them to charity (They need it too!), or the Salvation Army shops, Goodwill (Help people out!) and Consignment shops are always a good way to go. (You get money when your items are sold at Consignment shops, BONUS!!)

Freecycle.org OR a consignment shop, multiple lawnsales etc.. freecycle is great, you can get free stuff from people who don't need their stuff any more AND you can find homes for stuff you don't need

I give mine to a local thrift shop that supports either the elderly or abused women. You can afford to give it away, especially if you don't want to keep it.
