Eg. they say librans are a social butterfly, but I am really not. I am quite shy and avoid the limelight. But the rest of the qualities are very right-on.

I am also a Libran and I can be very sociable at times, but other times I don't want anyone to look at me, or make me the center of attention at all. Especially if I feel intimidated by the people around me, I will not talk at all and I will retreat into my little shell. All of the other qualities seem to be right.

No we don't, which is a good thing otherwise there'd be 12 groups of people all the same. Our character depends on the other planets (as well as the Sun), their signs, the 'aspects' they make to each other, and other astrological indicators. For instance if your Libra Sun was beside Neptune in the sky you will take on some of Neptune's qualities, including shyness, love of seclusion, sympathy for others .... etc. Most astrologers including me believe also it's up to us how we develop the various characteristics "suggested" by our charts. all of it is a generalization and you are not likely to fit every trait. however there are also two sides of every sign. just because you are not a social butterfly, does not mean that the opposite (ie shy) is not also part of the libra personality. try linda goodman's sun signs. it's a classic and she does a great job of showing all the aspects of the signs.

it is just generalizing because i to am a Libra i can be very sociable but i have to know most of everyone in the group but if i don't i have a tenancies to hang back
