negative media attention - killers?

I really think that the media is a huge part of this problem. Cho mailed that tape to NBC knowing full well it would get blasted out there, and even though he died, he got what he wanted - these crazy people do these things for the negative attention and the media needs to quit giving it to them, and I think if they do quit these events will slow down.

I really believe people died because the media keeps blasting this stuff.

it's like a kid who misbehaves, usually if you ignore them they quit. If you give them negative attention they keep acting up. It's the same thing. These killers are just like spoiled little kids.

Actually, many serial killers have been caught when contacting the media because they unknowingly leave clues that law enforcement can use to find them. For example, Theodore John Kaczynski (the Unabomber) was finally arrested when he sent his 'Manifesto' to several major newspapers to be published and his own brother recognized the prose used and informed police.

Even before the origin of media, people were murdering for whatever motives, so media attention is not the primary cause. Cho did what he did because he was troubled and should've gotten professional counseling to help him deal with his personal demons in a positive effective manner.

During Cho's rampage, the public tuned into the media for information about what, where, who, how, and why this unfortunate incident happened. Hopefully, they became knowledgeable enough about this massacre so maybe they can recognize the next 'Cho' and intervene in some helpful way to prevent these type of actions from happening.
