Plastic trees don't work. Soil is too dry to grow much.
I still want a natural look.

Yes, what is artificial shade?

Constructing a shade structure that matches your house and the surrounding country is proabably the best bet. Victorian homes would use a gazebo, a Southwestern might use a variation of a ramada. Contemporary homes might use one of the newer solar shades shaped like a parabolic wing....at least in my opinion.

Hi there,

Would you please Edit your question and tell me if you mean artificial tree shade in the yard, or shade for the back of your house such as a patio?

well, you can try with anything. you can set them in front of a light and see what shade you have, after that use this to start and polish your idea to get what you want.

Take a trellis and decorate it as a climbing shrub, use more than one and create your own shapes
