I say the sand people because they were harmful and didn't really do anything but create a nuisance. R2-D2 carried the message from Princess Leia, disabled the Death Star defense and helped Luke navigate the X-Wing. C3PO did help to translate languages when they got in trouble and served as a decoy when Luke and the others got in trouble. Chewbacca was good because he could fight, fly the Millennium Falcon and he kept Han Solo out of trouble.
The Ewoks were kind of annoying but don't forget that they helped to defeat some of the rebel forces and without them, Luke would have probably had his a$$ beat down along with some of the other Federation members.

but i want to argue some answers here
Every charector had a part to the movie.
Greedo was part of the Jabba the Hutt syndicate and lead Solo to know Jabba was after him.
The Ewoks as annoying as they were, were the part that let the rebels win the battle of Endor.
Grand Mott Tarken was a very interesting charectoer. you should read the books that talk about his past before the Death Star.
In fact Admirl Ackbar (Return of the jedi) was once a slave to Tarkin and the rebels found out and freed him. Lots of intel came from Ackbar hearing conversations.

The Ewoks were kinda pointless, which is why they almost didn't even make it into the film, but I'll have to go with Greedo. He's in there for barely a minute, and I just think it wasn't necessary. If you had asked for the worst character in the new movies, I would have said Jar Jar Binks in a heartbeat!
