I have read the ebay magazines about the people who started doing it as part time or just to get rid of the stuff that they have and now do it full time. I would like to be able to clear out closets and make extra money - so far its really not working. I try to get rid of new popular items with tags and at bargains and even then = not takeers! WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO SELL!!!! Any help would be appreciated!!

Your first problem is you're selling during the summer. Most people are out enjoying the weather so wait until october before you start selling again. I made a few hundred dollars getting rid of stuff I don't want anymore back in february and march, but after april, my sales fell because of this. Oh, well...

I'm new to ebay and have been clearing out lots of things in my apartment....clothes, a camera, collector items, such as a barbie and die cast car. You can sell cd's, books, anything really. I sold a cell phone I didn't use any more. Pretty much anything you'd normally put in a yard sale. Art, household items - you name it. The clothing items I 've sold have been tommy hilfiger and levis. They seem to be hot items. They were my finance's (men's wear). I don't thin the season really matters, if people want something they will be buy no matter what time of the year.
My suggestion is to post pictures, give accurate descriptions of the items, always start your price low (I've found starting at 99 cents is helpful)...also alway be honest and treat your buyers well. Good Luck!

I agree w/ the first answer...wait until fall when the weather gets cooler...that's when people really surf the net. I sold a few things on eBay and it was a no go also, so I had a garage sale. I still have a heap of stuff left, but it's a way to get rid of stuff...or place an ad up at work or in your local paper on what you wish to sell.

Every woman I know wants to try on a clothing item before buying . . .
Unless it is very generic like a T Shirt or sweater from a retailer they already know ( Like LL Bean or Lands End) .
Plus , for 2nds , students buy at Goodwill - No need to chance something that someone has to mail .

As I do recall , however , there was a time when Beanie Babies sold , but now . . .

It used to be easier to make money on ebaY than it currently is. At one time, most of the buyers and most of the sellers were fairly honest. When the scammers started moving in, though, ebaY did little or nothing to shut them down. All they did was raise their listing fees and their commissions, year after year after year.

Ten years ago, I know of people who would go around on trash day, and grab stuff that people were throwing away. There is really good stuff in the trash, you know, and I guess they were just tired of it. These people would list it on ebaY and sometimes they'd make a little, sometimes they'd make a lot.

These days, in order to make money on ebaY, you create a bunch of sock puppet usernames, and sell really cheap stuff back and forth, paying ebaY their pound of flesh, and each of your sock puppets gives the other sock puppets a good rating.

Then, when you have built your ratings up, you list a bunch of things that are valuable. People look at your rating, trust you, and buy from you. They send you the money, and you send them something that's broken, or something that's incomplete, or you just don't send them anything. You've made 20 sales, and collected a few thousand bucks, and you withdraw your money from PayPal as soon as the suckers pay. Eventually, ebaY shuts down your account, but PayPal does NOT give your customers a refund because there's no money in your account to give you a refund for. Ha. Ha. And not one in a thousand ever gets prosecuted, because ebaY got *their* money, and your customers don't know who screwed them.

So nobody who has any sense will buy on ebaY. All that are left are scammers and victims.
