What's the best Siouxsie and the Banshees album for a new listener? I rather it not be one of the compilations, but a studio album.

I love that group.

I think Tinderbox will hit the sweet spot for almost anyone. All are great, but some are a bit more unique than others.

I never thought Id see a great question like this!

Try "Tinderbox" or "Hyaena" I really like those two.

"Once upon a time:The Singles" is a good collection of early stuff that you should check out- some of* the songs on here dont appear on the albums so its good even if you dont like compilations

"Kaleidoscope", I dont have it but a lot of people really love it.
I dont know if I recommend "Juju" for the first album, but its got some neat stuff on it.

I think "Hyaena" is great for a new listener though. A few hits on it(Dazzle, Dear Prudence- but there are better songs like 'Take me back' and 'Bring me the head of the preacher man' which didnt become hits), and Robert Smith (The Cure) plays guitars on it. Its has a sounds thats easy to get used too(I dont mean it has a commercial sound- it just has a good sound thats likeable) and pretty much every song on it is good.
"Tinderbox"(Also a few hits-Candyman, Cities in the Dust) is good too but it takes a little bit getting used too. The same goes for "The Scream" and "Join Hands"- which were mentioned before by MachPen.

Whatever you choose dont start with "Superstition" or "The Rapture", they arent bad but they arent good for beginers.
("The Rapture" is often considers to be the Banshees worst album and "Superstition" is good- but bad for new fans)
I suppose "Through the Looking Glass" would work too- but its a covers album, so I dont know.(Its pretty darn good for a covers album though-'The Passenger'(Iggy Pop) and 'This Wheels on Fire'(Bob Dylan) got on the second 'Singles' compilation and 'Gun'(John Cale) and 'Johnny Jewel'(Television) are great)

I hope you enjoy whatever album you choose!
Also check out The Creatures(Siouxsie and Budgies band after the banshees) and Siouxsie Sioux has a solo album due out October.
Again, I say "Hyaena" but you cant go wrong. But may I ask what song you heard that got you interested in this band?

*Im sorry if my answer was too cluttered!
* After Hyaena if you want to get into them more try "Tinderbox" and "Peepshow". Then try the real early stuff.

*Sorry if this is too long but I really like this band

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Well it really depends, because Siouxsie has been through many transformations during her career. Her earliest stuff was very punk which I just adore, then she delved more into new wave-punk territory later (that was awesome, too).... and then, over the years it softened into a gothy genre...which was more danceable, so it really depends on what you're in the mood for.

My favorites are:

"The Scream"
"Join Hands" (these two albums show her in all her early punk glory)

"Through The Looking Glass" (this is definitely a favorite...so many good songs)

"Kaleidoscope" also a good one!

"Superstition" (I absolutely love this one...a more mature Siouxsie but God her voice is beautiful) Love "Peek-A-Boo"

Good luck!

My fave is Juju but Peepshow is also very good. What a tough question... I'm not sure you could really go wrong with any album by them to be honest.
