Are Chechen Muslims Sunni or Shia?

Question

The majority of the residents of Chechnya and Dagestan are Muslims, however, do they follow the Sunni or Shia sect? I think that they're Sunni, because the majority of muslims are Sunni, but I'm not sure.

Chechens are Sunnis, most of Dagestanis are also Sunnis, but Dagestan is ethnically mixed area, so there are some Shias as well. Out of statistically Muslim population, Sunnis make up more than 80%, the rest are Shia, Ibadis, Agakhanis and other sects. Shia is predominant in Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Bahrain.

I have many chechen friends and I can speak some of their language. All Chechens are Sunnis, but some have turned to communism, and we don't consider communists and traitors Muslims.

They are Sunni. Very few Shia Muslims devote themselves to the doctrines of the Salafist Jihadists. It was a movement born out of Sunni Muslims in North Africa. The only "allies" they may have gained in their carrying out of terrorist attacks on people might be some Wahabi sect members from Saudi Arabia. Usama Bin Laden borrowed heavily from the writings of Ibn Abdul Wahab Najdi, the spiritual father of the Wahabists.
