Computer will not load windows (only safe mode) we had a lightning storm, the power dimmed but didnt go out...

Question

Is there anyway to save my computer or is it dead? I tried a system restore, but it still will not load. It just comes up with a dos prompt saying "we apologize for the inconveneince but windows will not start, a recent update or blah blahblah might be to blame." and so on and so on.

If safe mode works the computer should work. Safe Mode is just Windows without any drivers loaded. You should run your virus and spyware checkers whilst in safe mode. You should also delete (via control panel) any programs you may have recently installed. Just use your own memory for this. Only do the ones you or the kids installed within a week.
You can only give it a try.
