After you've done the obvious (diaper change, feeding, rocking, burping) put her in her crib for 10 minutes leave the room and take a few cleansing breaths for yourself so you don't get too stressed(she might just fall asleep)....now did the parents mention anything about teething or her being unusually fussy? If not and the baby is crying uncontrollably I'd give one of the parent a call. I know you don't want to ruin there night out but trust me they will think you a very responsible sitter for letting them know you are concerned about their child. Good luck honey and don't freak out!

Check diaper,
Hold close and bounce and walk and pat back, (when babies cry they can swallow air causing gas which makes them cry more) while bouncing hum or sing softly,
Try offering a toy or favorite blanket,
Try a warm bottle of breastmilk or formula.
Stay calm, the more calm you are the more likely baby is to calm down.
You could try laying with the baby on a pallet in a dim room and patting babies butt. Talk or sing softly and be very calm. Make sure baby has a comfort item such as blanket or pacifier.

Put the baby down on a blanket on the floor in front of the t.v. Turn the t.v. on a show you like, and turn the volume up. I know that this won't actually stop the crying immediately, but if you are sure the baby isn't in need of something, it is probably pitching a fit because you aren't it's mother. You can't morph into it's mom, so keep it where you can take care of it and let it cry itself out. I have done this with my nephew. He loves me now and stopped crying so much after I did that.

reasons babies cry? hungry, dirty diaper, sleepy, teething, and the list goes on and on. first off... is the baby sick? like throwing up or running fever? if so, call the parents. they will thank you. if it's just a fussy cry it could be any of the reasons listed, so pretty much, just start trying them all. if you havent fed in a while do that. then change the diaper. and with the time she's probably just sleepy, so try rocking her to sleep or pacing back and forth with her in your arms. good luck, hope this helps

I agree with the last couple of answers (except for the bit about putting her on the floor and turning the TV up loud.. weird). If she absolutely won't calm down, though, call the parents. It's what they would want you to do. She's young, she probably misses them, and there really is no substitute at that age if baby is wanting mommy or daddy. Don't be embarrassed - this kind of thing happens all the time.

Honestly - call her parents. If you are not able to handle a crying baby and instead are coming online to Yahoo! Answers, maybe babysitting isn't in the cards for you. If my child was being babysat and was crying nonstop, I'd want to know, and I'd be furious if I found out I hadn't been called. Get off the net, hold the baby and call her mother.

Is she hungry, can you make a bottle or offer some baby food? What about her diaper, is it wet or dirty? Can you hold her head down on your shoulder and rock her? It's late, she's probably missing her parents. What about putting her in her stroller and rolling her around the house? Good Luck.

if the baby is running a slight fever she could be teething if she is wrap an ice cube in a rag and tie it at the end and wet it also and then let her suck on it. tyr taking her outside or to the window turn on soft music or the t.v. she may aslo like books . she may just want her mom in which case she will have to cry herself to sleep which should not take longer than 30 to 40 min usually. but dont worry because if you do than she will not be able to relax good luck

If she has been crying for over half an hour, call the parents and ask if there is anything special they would do. They will want to know...especially since she could be getting sick. Or, if she cries a lot, they can give you advice on what to do to calm their child. (Calling the parents means you are responsible, not that you are incompetent)
Good luck!
