some cars run only on battery and can not go as far on gas cars. Some cars have both electric and gas. How does that work? What is a bio fuel made of? And Some newer vehicles engines have it where in the city only half the cilindars are used. But when we go on the highway all the cilindars are in use. How does that work?

Hybrid=Electric + Gas. The engine converts automatically from one to the other based on power output needed. Example - A car pulls up to a red light, the engine converts to electric. The light turns green, the engine converts to gas.

Biofuel= can be produced from any carbon source that can be replenished rapidly e.g. plants. Many different plants and plant-derived materials are used for biofuel manufacture.

Some cars have sensors that tell it when to use more cylinders and when to use less. Example - 4 cylinders for steady speeds on flat surfaces and 8 cylinders for hills and acceleration.

I think most everyone will agree that Japan is leading the market worldwide. Mostly Honda and Toyota. Nissan is trying to stay in the game. Electric cars range from 80 to 250 miles per charge but aren't the best technology right now and quite expensive to purchase and repair. Hybrids (electric and Gasoline engines) are at a weird stage right now because the government is giving so much to auto manufacturers to produce them but there are only a couple of successful units. Pro: The prius wins hands down with upwards of 60mpg, and the worst I've seen being 45mpg. Cons: Chevy made a half ton pickup that got virtually the same gas mileage, (ok, maybe a mile or two better gas milage) but with a $10,000 price tag. The hybrids work off of electric when in the city or 50 mph or less. When you get on the highway they use a combination of the electric and gas engine to produce the speed needed on the highwayl. Hybrids are the only package that you get better gas milage in the city versus the highway.
Bio fuel is made of mostly vegetable oil taken from restaurants, put through a relatively simple chemical processing, and turned into a diesel equivelant, yet burning much cleaner, recycling a renewable resource and smelling like french fry exhaust.
The part time cylinder functioning engines, produced mostly by GM give larger vehicles very good highway milage, though they don't help in the city. Some half ton pickups are getting over 20mpg. This is an old technology brough back from the early to mid 80's cadillacs, though not very successful 20 years ago, new technology has made it a slight success.
Basicly, when power is needed, assuming a v-8, all 8 cylinders are functioning, but when just cruising on a flat highway, the computer shuts off fuel to 2 to 4 cylinders to reduce consumption. It doesn't take all 300+ hp to go 65mph down a flat highway, but 150 to 200 hp do just fine while saving plenty of fuel. Some estimates claim up to 35%.
Hope all of your questions are answered. Good Luck

Dude, it would take hours to answer all this. In summary, engineers work their magic with electronics and I would hazard to guess that the U.S. has by far the biggest number of 'green' vehicles on the roads.
