I'm writing an essay about how "Poverty and Isolation can weaken the Human Spirit" and I need different characters whose spirits got weak by poverty and/or isolation. I only need 3, but I have 4, & the paragraph's too big. So tell me- who supports my thesis the least?

*Bob Ewell- w/o a wife, job, or respect from ppl in Maycomb, he drank and neglected his children, & accused Tom of rape bcuz he thought he'd be praised, but when he wasn't he seeked revenge bcuz he had nothing to lose.
*Mayella Ewell- tried to separate herself from family's dirty image, but still had no friends, so she befriended Tom but was so ashamed that she let her dad accuse him of rape.
*Tom Robinson- was nice enough to help Mayella, but was then accused of rape &, after being found guilty & ostracized by Maycomb, lost hope in justice system and tried to run from jail.
*Boo Radley- was locked in house for 15 yrs by strict father, & stayed inside his house after his father died.

(talked in chatspeak to save space.)

The one I'd recommend you omit is Tom Robinson. His spirit wasn't weakened, in my opinion. Any one-armed man who'd try to bust out of jail by going over a wall in broad daylight does not have a weak spirit. He certainly had a weak trust in the white folks' so-called justice system, but his spirit wasn't weak. Recall how, on the witness stand, he was polite but only looked away or down when he had to repeat ugly words or say something he thought he shouldn't have to say. His isn't shown as a weak spirit. Despite poverty and the isolation that came from being African American in the Deep South in the 1930s, he still had the strength of dignity which the other three you've chosen lacked. No dignity.

I think you're right about the other three, however. Keep them.

Just in case it'll affect your grade, "seeked" isn't a real word; the one you want in that case is "sought."

By the way, I loved this book and hope you enjoyed it, too, even if it was required reading.

Hmm... I would say Boo Radley would be the least supportive arguement. He chose to stay in isolation, rather than not having a choice, and also he came out of the house to help Scout and Jem, because he felt such a strong attachment to them, as well as giving them gifts and helping them out from time to time. (Ex: after the fire, he dropped a blanket over Scout's shoulders.)
That would be my opinion. I hope that helps you some.
