I get people all the time thinking that homosexuality is not a mental illness, others that say that Israel is responsible for all the war in the world, and yet others that blame wealthy people for all of their troubles.

So why is it that high school dropouts always think that they are authorities on everything? They clearly don't even have a secondary education if they believe that rubbish:) God bless them but they really need to go to school even if it means starting with hooked on phonics. Lol:)

That's one of the best questions I've seen here.

I don't buy that "street smarts" thing. People talk as though everyone automatically has one or the other and never both. But let's face it - most of those folks you're talking about have neither. Sure, there is such a thing as "street smarts", but being uneducated doesn't imply that you've got it.

Furthermore, most of the highly educated people I know (and I know plenty - I've been a college professor for 20 years) have plenty of street smarts, are involved in an incredible variety of activities, and are exactly who you'd want to depend on in an emergency.

Of course homosexuality is not a mental illness. It sounds as though you're content to repeat some right-wing talk radio slogans. Are you aware that's just childish propaganda?

I am a high School Drop out and I do not believe that I am an authority on everything. But your questions is really not a question at all relating to high school drop out. You grip in general about homosexuality, then Israel.. WHAT IS YOUR REAL PROBLEM? Are you trying to get a rise out of someone. I guess since I am an authority according to you then I will use my authority to not discuss this topic with someone who can not ask a straight question!

I also want to add that i did not use drugs nor did I have any children until way later in life. So to the gentleman who said that before.......... What are your sources.

The things that you mention do not need an education in schools to have an opinion on. BTW Homosexuality is NOTdefined as a mental illness by the American Psychological Society so you might want to check your facts before asserting that others think they are authorities with little education. Pot, kettle, black? Ok.

Its divided up into books smarts, and street smarts. Someone with the 'hard knock' street smarts might not know about all the subworkings of financial markets but know that their brother is going off to war.
But I feel you're jumping the gun a bit; Some people who can't finish high school or start college don't do it nessasarily because they're street corner hanging fools or baby popping machines. They might have siblings or parents to take care or, a personal problem that becomes too much to keep with the rigours of regular education (GED or home school may fill this gap).

First, I don't buy your premise. Lots of High School drop-outs are the smartest people in the class. The road they are choosing is maybe the hardest, and there is many twists and turns to go when you leave your security web.
But, you, you are solidly in your security web, so any contradiction seems horrible to you. But the fact is, you have not yet tasted the challenge that life has in store for you!
Don't miss it!

Ah because they haven't developed the smarts to know any better?

All kids under the age of 17 know everything, or at least they think they do.

They are all in for a rude awakening.

I've always found that the people with a little bit of college education are the ones that thought they were the experts.

Hmm... Does that mean that we have to start investigating whether the talking heads on cable TV talk shows have their HS diploma?
