There was a theory that whatever you wanted to do as a child, that's what you should be doing as an adult. (Ummm, I wanted to be a mermaid...)

Adults are filled with concerns like: "Will it make me enough money?" "Will it bring me status in the community?" "Will it get me chicks?" (don't deny it!) But when we are kids, we dont think like that. We want to be astronauts because the pictures of outer space amazed us! We want to be a fire fighter because we looked up to them as heroes. We want to be veterinarians becasue we loved animals.

The purity of your desires when you are a child are a clue to what you were put here to do.

When I was a kid (besides a mermaid) I wanted to be a writer. School came and went, a relationship came and went, a kid came and went and all of a sudden? BAM! I'm in my 30's with no college education. So guess what? I went back to school and hope to be a writer. It never left me, just got side tracked.

Ask yourself these questions:
1) What do I love? it could be that you get a rush when you watch "Cops" and you think you should be doing that. Maybe you like to cook but dont think you could make a living. Maybe you love sitting down to balance your check book.
2) If you were rich and didnt have to worry about a pay check, what would you do to pass your time?
3) What is your hobby? So many people have turned some weird obscure hobby into a money maker. I saw a documentary about a guy who collected old metal things. Just junk! screws and spoons and springs and gears and wacked out stuff! His wife yelled at him to do something with all that crap, so he started making art. Clocks and sculptures and stuff. Now he's making money hand over fist.

Hope this long rambling opinion helped.

I would start by taking a personality test to see what some of your natural strengths and weaknesses are. Next, be honest about what you want to make and how many hours you want to work. Also ask yourself how much time and money you want to invest in training. Lastly, you might want to look at the classfied ads in the geographic area where you want to live to see what is in deman. Good luck!
