I want to cut down on my garbage bill and am wanting to put my decomposables in a bin or whatever outside, not open. I have dogs who will get into it. I live in Oregon and it rains in the winter a lot and is hot in the summer, any cheap easy ideas that cost next to nothing ?

An inexpensive way to contain your compost is to get a section of chicken wire or old fence. Tie the ends together with wire, poly twine or cable ties. A twelve foot piece will make a bin about four foot in diameter. Get material that's 36 to 48 inches wide or trim it so that the bin's walls are at a manageable height for you. Depending on the gage of the material, you may need to reinforce it every couple of feet with pieces of wood so that it will stand on its own.

We use this system and it works well when you have two or three of them so that you can turn the compost into the second when the first one is full.
