What Bush has brought to Iraq is not what I call "democracy".
Just because they "voted" for choices that were approved by Bush doesn't mean they are "free"
Over one million Iraqis have died so far in this war. I know some is their own fault for their Sunni/Shiite rivalry, but time will tell if they really think the USA brought "freedom" to them or just replaced one dictator with another.
I do agree with you that Iraqis should have been the ones to overthrow Saddam if they wanted to. I guess the Sunnis were happier under him, but not the Kurds and Shiites.
Anyway, I don't think it's our business and never was. Bush just wanted revenge for the war his dad didn't finish and he knew he could just pick a country to go to war with and half the Americans would cheer along like it's a football game.

Framing the question with "ANY COST" guarantees the answer. At this time the hard part seems to have been accomplished. Kurdistan is at peace and prospering. Other regions are also doing well. We hear about Iraq only when there is violence and we don't hear much these days, so it's a matter of a relatively short period and the job will be done. Leaving before it is means everything will have been for naught and no country should ever trust us again.

Because what happens in Iraq effects the U.S. We can access oil easier if Iraq is a democracy. I agree Iraqis obviously do not want democracy and we have no right to force it on them. Bush expects a country that was just a dictatorship to suddenly become a Democracy? It sounds like wishful thinking to me.

I think that was the original idea. As time goes on it has become clear that a democracy in Iraq will not work. I think our goal their now is about stabilizing the country and making sure the terrorists dont sieze power of the government. We have to lower our expectations and realize that by doing this we will have accomplished a lot.

Right! The people in Iraq don't know anything about democracy, so how could they want it? We have no right to try to force our form of democracy on anyone else. If they had asked for our help it would be a different story, they didn't. We should pack up our troops, military equipment & get out of there, ASAP!

you said the word"impose",if you make an analysis and check all the situation(actual),instead that i never agreed about the dictator of such nation before,i heard a few weeks ago ,clearly to the people at the gov. of irak saying literally this:"if the usa wants to return with all their troops, that is o.k. to us,we can handle our businesses",and they went to take a kind of vacation if i can remember very well.
