I was charged with third degree assault. The person that pressed charges was charged with assault and harrasment by my mother the previous day. Can I request for her to drop the charges and my mother will drop the charges against her? Is that possible?

I would not advise doing that. Just provide your attorney with proof of your mother's pressing charges against them the day before. That will probably get you off. If you don't have an attorney, tell the judge that you want one. If you don't ask for one, they won't provide you with one.

Both of the actions will be prosecuted by the state. It has nothing to do with whether "you want" to press charges. They were both violations of the criminal code and although there was an alleged victim in each case, the prosecuter ultimately gets to choose whether they want to prosecute. When someone is murdered, the victim can't press charges, because they're dead, but the defendant is prosecuted anyway. It's a societal crime. You can drop any civil complaints you both might have though.
