bought a video board that supports pci. I fired it up and it didn't work. small print in manual states pci 2.0 required. I know there's a pci express and I know that I don't have that. I thought PCI was PCI.

PCI 1.0 is just component level specs released in 1992. PCI 2.0 set the standards for the connector and motherboard slot in 1993. They have the same speed.

Later PCI 2.x versions allowed for higher ferquency (66mhz) and lower voltage signalling 3.3V instead of 5V.
