I drive a 2001 kia sportage. I was leaving my house & coming up to a stop sign when my car just died. I tried to start it (thinking it was just a small issue) and it wouldn't start. Now it's turning over, but, still won't start. I had someone come look @ it and he says he thinks it the timing belt. Someone else told me your timing belt won't just go out like that w/out the car acting up previously (which it didn't). Coincidentally I just got my oil changed a couple hours before this happened. I don't know if maybe they knocked something loose..or it may not have anything to do w/ the oil change. I don't know!! Help please!! Thank You.

To check the timing belt, open the oil intake and see if the valve lifters are moving while you turn the engine over, If not, timing belt........No, not two grand, maby 3-400....#####

The timing belt can go at any time, without warning! That is why you should replace it at the recommended intervals.

When you crank the car, does it sound strange? If it sounds normal, it may not be the timing belt! It could be anything!

Without looking at the car, I can not tell if it is the timing belt. You are going to have to have the car towed to a qualified mechanic!

Have it taken to another shop and have a diagnostic scan done on it. Don't go back to the same shop that did the oil change. The scan will reveal any trouble codes to the tech and allow him or her to pinpoint the problem.

When the timing chain break,s you come to a stop right then and there . the only cure for this is a new chain . can be expensive depending where you take it to. p.s. it will turn over till the battery goes dead but will not start.
