I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what sort of "trekkie" foods I could have at a Star Trek party. I need a dinner option. It could be something talked about in a movie, or just something you see in the background periodically. Preferably something a couple different people will like (it's a party, of course). Any ideas?

Hi, Kiki--

Considering that most of the food served on Federation starships is produced by replicators, you could pretty much have any varieties of foods you'd like. However, considering the health-conciousness of the Future, you might want to go fairly heavy on the fruits and vegetables, with possibly some form of chicken or fish for the meat course. International foods are also very much a part of the Federation world. Included items might be curry, chow mein, perochkis, blintzes, etc, etc, etc.
Tea (Earl Grey, hot) would be one ideal beverage, of course.
As for specific dishes, that might be a problem---Vulcan Plomeek soup is a favorite of Spock's, but there isn't a recipe. The Klingon's delicacy is basically a bowl of spiced worms (live and dangerous). Prune juice is a favorite of Lt. Worf, but it doesn't really swing at parties. Capt. Kirk's lunch choice was usually very Iowa--a chicken sandwich and a cup of coffee.

Presentation, shape and coloring would be your best bet, rather than recipes and ingredients. Colorful plates and serving bowls, placemats and tablecloths, food in interesting shapes or designs (be careful if you're thinking of using foodcolors to turn standard fare into alien treats--the colors do make a difference in the psychology of taste). Music from the series as a light background always works well, too.

There are two Star Trek Cookbooks available from Barnes&Noble’s website.

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/results.asp?WRD=star+trek+cook&z=y&cds2Pid=9481

Or just go to http://www.bn.com and search for star trek cookbook

The first book has Majel Barrett’s name on the by-line so I suppose that means she had some input into making the book.

Here is what http://www.bn.com says about the book.
