This is astonishing - a statement from Gerry McCann saying that they will be scaling down the campaign to find their missing daughter. Considering we have be talking, watching, reading about it for the last three months, why scale the media attention now? She's not been found yet...
McCanns to scale down their media campaign

Gerry McCann also said about the Liverpool family devastated by their son's murder.
"Kate and I were incredibly shocked to hear of the news [of Rhys Jones]. It is a terrible waste of a young life. They, of course, have our sympathy,” he said.
He added that he hoped Rhys’s parents were given time to grieve. But he revealed some of his own torment in a direct comparison between the McCann and the Jones families.
“Both sets of parents are in the middle of terrible traumas. They, however, will have closure. We don’t,” he said"
Amazing...

I think the whole thing is strange. The minute there's some negative press, the McCann media campaign is being scaled down.
Why? Madeleine is still missing. She's not been found yet and the media campaign is all about finding her. There's a £1m in the fund, so there's no need to scale down and they shouldn't.
Gerry is always jumping on the bandwagon - his sympathies are very kind, but I think the Jones family don't need to be compared to the McCanns. To make the comparison and then to say, hey ho - they'll have closure is pathetic. How on earth does he know they'll ever have closure. Sounds like he's trying to imply that he's got it worse than the Jones - it's not a competition fgs.

When people have being saying this is just one big media circus campaign from the McCanns, the pros have being saying, you would keep champaigning ( you would do whatever it takes ) well your man Gerry is now scaling down the campaign, and Madeleine has still not been found, what will he do with his million plus?
And what he said about the rhys jones case having closure beggers belief.
And is he really still asking for fund money?

They have now achieved their objective, which was to raise a massive fund and worldwide recognition for Madeleine - and they want to now scale it down? It just doesn't make any sense at all, why does Gerry keep talking to the press and giving interviews then? There's a lot I can't understand with this pair, from parenting skills to their "search for Madeleine" but comparing themselves to the parents of Rhys Jones and commenting that they at least have closure is a very weird comment to make.

If Kate McCann lived on my assets, believe me she might run! lowjoy destructive Ben Needhams mum replaced right into a single working class lady. She hadn't left her little boy to pass out on the playstation each and every night. that's a pity the media did no longer supply her the comparable assurance. possibly if she had long previous around with a toy clutched to her she might have invoked slightly greater sympathy. unfortuantly this youthful lady replaced into no longer the cosumate actress Kate Mccann is.

The Jones' don't have closure. They know their son is dead, but they don't know who killed him or why. I find Gerry's comments extremely tactless, it does indeed sound as if he is saying that the Jones' are better off than he and Kate, which just beggars belief.
I also don't understand why they are scaling down the campaign just because they are getting some criticism from the press. Surely finding their daughter is more important? But then I don't understand a lot of things about this campaign.

It is also strange that Gerry has indicated a scale down in publicity but has also requested a rapid spend of the £1m it is reported that 'The McCanns want more money spent on a new poster campaign, hiring extra staff to boost publicity'

This whole thing has been strange since day one. I mean they wanted all the media attention when they should have been keeping a low profile. Now 3 - 4 months on they want a low profile. I don't understand them. In fact I could never understand their actions since day one. There is more to all this then meets the eye. This who saga is totally bizarre.

This line
They, however, will have closure. We don’t,” he said"
has to go down as one of Gerry's all time quotes. I mean WTF!!!
Trying to hitch his situation onto other grieving families and then complaining that at least they are better off knowing that their child is dead and he doesn't.
Disgracefully insensitive and is just yet another example of Gerry showing his true colours.
The man is worse than despicable. Regardless of what he did or didnt do May 3, as a human being I rate Gerry McCann lower than pond scum (and I apologize to Pond Scum worldwide for equating you with such a person)

I can't get the link to work. (What a surprise!)
I cannot believe that he is basically playing a game of "my tragedy is worse than your tragedy". I am dumbstruck at this mans nerve, and cannot find words to express how tasteless and appalling his comment is.
Poor Madeleine, having parents like this.
