You have listed several different issues, first of all the recycling thing versus pollution, you are always going to have pollution wherever you go and lots of it isn't just from America you have other countries that don't have the strict guidelines we do as far as pollution and nuclear waste and countries such as China just pollute the ocean and it eventually ends up you have it affecting our ecosystem. What are we going to do they have cheap labor so we just turn a blind eye and allow it to go on, it's not worth the war. Violence yet violent movies, you can't control violent movies you can control what your children watch but as they get older and to become teenagers they are going to find away around you, I must say though I have watched many a violent movie and never shot or killed anyone. I blame violence for what society has done as far as keeping people from buying homes, raising the price of everything, and taking away people's rights how long do you think this will go on without consequence or someone acting out. Were human we have wants and needs and when you take those away you a shell of a person and you wind up hurting others to get revenge. We speak about the things going on and not act upon them because what are you going to do, your helpless, and yes powerless, you have an entire society with different beliefs you can't go against a whole nation. Sure you can form a group to protest the things you just mentioned but you only look foolish. Maybe someday you will have the power to do change the world, I'm too exhausted from working and caring for my family and living "paycheck to paycheck" to do anything.

I think it is laziness for the most part. Another problem is that much too often people don't know how they can take action; so it's a feeling of being powerless. But it can't be denied that where there's a will there's a way, so we really have to admit that people are just plain lazy. Things are so much easier said than done. Also, in respect to what is being talked about, people may be afraid to act on their words. Standing up to a challenge is easier to do when one is not alone, but sometimes that's just what needs to be done. Anyway, I don't think people know the power of their actions, and they don't understand the impact they can make by working for a better cause.

I believe they call that a diffusion of responsibility, where everyone thinks that someone else should be the one in charge of doing the thing that needs to be done. My answer to you is to become a force for change by setting a good example. Many people DO recycle. In fact, being green is quite fashionable where I live.
Unfortunately, my customer base is so widely spread that I am forced to drive a car, but I have been known to walk to the store, and other nearby places.

Answer is simple, lol. We are all to lazy to go out and take charge of our own life and what we feel is right. and some of us feel powerless because we haven't learned that power lies in numbers and not just one person (though I shouldn't say that is entirely true...) instead of doing something we do just that sit and whine about the problems today and not act. though by saying this i am calling myself a hypocrite because i live in the U.S. and I want Bush out of the office, but then again, im an average 16 year old kid...

first of all i don't complain about things that i'm not willing to change or am doing.
i do conserve gas and drive a small car, even when suv's were in. i rarely drive. we are very conservative with our driving. therefore, i have the right to voice my opinion.
i don't watch violence, so it actually doesn't bother me. i don't watch the news.
i feel very empowered, so i guess some people are lazy.... well maybe not lazy.... maybe they're just tired at the end of the day...

Not one the aforementioned "we" I am from the old school that believes actions speak louder than words...I dont talk the talk unless I am walking the walk...btw as far as movies and tv go...isnt it the responsibility of the parent to censor what thier kids see? I personaly have never seen and have no inclination to see Hostel or many other movies of that ilk.

Probably some of each. Most people don't feel they can make a difference. Or have no clue where to start. It's easier to complain than it is to do something about it.

WE like to be self righteous hypocrites who do nothing about the problem so we can act superior towards everyone and never get blamed for making a mistake. That way they can feel as though their words are so important and feel slug about themselves when they go to sleep.
