Given this is in the philosophy section, I would suggest reading about the Socratic dialectic. In short, Socrates would get others to agree with some thing simple, then another thing that seemed simple, then when all this was added up logically, the person would have to accept something more complex. You cannot simply tell people that a certain idea is "right" or they should do it, you must slowly coax them by having them agree a little at a time.

First, each part of human life tends to have its own special ways of judging what is convincing. Pay attention to that, and know your stuff. In science, use data; in history, factual sources; and so on. In some areas, just agree to differ -- the Romans said it doesn't pay to argue about matters of taste and fashion.

Second, be more interested in the truth or the best solution than only about winning; and state in your own words exactly what the other people are claiming. If people feel they've been understood, and they trust you not to argue merely to win, they are more likely to be convinced by you. Don't call your opponents names, whether or not they are actually present. Name calling yields heat, not light, and makes people dig in, not listen.

An excellent resource is Dale Carnegie, "How to Win Friends and Influence People." A classic is Aristotle's Rhetoric. Look up "classical rhetoric" in wikipedia.
