Yes, but I don't think anything is going to be done any time soon.President Bush doesn't seem to want to try & stop illegal immigration. He just trys to pander to Hispanics. The larger the Hispanic population grows, the less will be done to stop illegal immigration.

I think so. I don't support the rage some people have towards immigrants in general, as we're ALL immigrants here in the US. Unless of course we're full Native blood. However I think that the illegal status of some shouldn't go ignored. Most certainly those who commit crimes. In fact, I think those are the only ones that should really be persued.
Unfortunately I don't think very much will be done. Even with the threat of foreign terrorists, not much effort is being put into anything. Bush signed the bill for the wall to be built on the Mexican border, but it was for show. He designated for it to be built, however he never gave it a budget. Of course nothing can begin until there are funds.
Like I said, I think some people blow the situation waaayyy out of proportion, and I'm quite sure a lot of them use this as an excuse to let loose on their racism and nationalism without being blamed. But I wouldn't mind a crackdown on those illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes without regret. Heck, I don't mind a crackdown on ANY kind of person who commits serious crimes without regret!
People also fall for the stereotypes that aren't necessarily true. Many many illegal immigrants who work pay taxes. Not all fo them, but by far more than we give credit. I even knew a couple who did this. They get their check, they reserve some, then file taxes at the end of the year. Dip into their reserves to pay what they owe, and they're set. Just as well, not very many illegal immigrants are on social support either. In fact, more white women are on welfare in this country than any other race. So to believe immigrants are taking over the system is quite the contrary to the fact. Again, not all of them support themselves, but by far more than we give credit for.
And here's what I wonder... developped and even developping countries all around the world have primary and secondary languages. Typically the primary being whatever their native tongue is, and the secondary being English. If so many countries, developped AND third world, can speak two languages, why can't the "superpower" of the world? I don't get it.

Yes!! Stricter measures should be taken to remove illegal immigrants in this country. Just because their countries couldn't do what it takes to give them a good living, doesn't mean they have to come here and take the jobs and welfare that citizens and legal immigrants should be getting.
Plus, it's true. Very few of them even speak English. So not only are they a financial burden, but they are polluting the American way of living with whatever their cultures are.
So definitely the US should take a greater stand.

It is too late. Once you have a problem of this magnitude the solution is not as easy if things were done right before hand. There is not an easy solution for this problem. So many aspects to consider. How did we get here and when did it become a problem and why. It didn't happen over night. I really believe we just have to accept what is and began again and this time take care to see that it is done right and it doesn't happen again. Current issues and simple ones can be taken care of. But here again they cross over every day. Some may get by.

Depends by what exactly you mean.
I agree that we need to secure the border and that anyone in America should speak English . That being said it's impossible/expensive to try something like deporting them all. I think we should have a way for the ones who haven't committed any other crimes, speak English , have a job, and pay taxes to stay .

Yes. The country was founded by legal immigrants for the most part. The US employers are complicit also. This includes the BS of H1B visas, they are just trying to get workers for lower pay.

No. We're bad enough already. Is it not true that America basically stole Arizona, New Mexico, and other territories from Mexico just because we had a larger military? It is. In doing so, America placed Mexico into a economic state that they cannot get out of. The least we could do is allow them safe passage back to their old territory.

The USA has as many illegal immigrants as it is prepared to employ. Prosecute the employers and you will stop the flow of illegals. People employ illegals because they can pay them low wages with no benefits. They could not do that with US citizens. The USA was founded on slavery and the treatment of illegals is not that much better than the days of the slave trade.
It is easy to say "prosecute the employers" but they are all right-wing so-called "Christians' who vote Republican and Bush is not going to annoy his voters. It is less contentious to employ more useless border guards than it is to try to solve the problem.

I think until the united states handles many of its other domestic problems it should stop allowing immigration altogether. We don't have much shortage of people in this country already and I don't understand what the need is for more citizens when as a taxpayer I have so many to support already...
