I beleive that the concept of each one would not exist without the other. To be able to know what something is, we must know what it isn't. If we have never experienced the concept of what it is not, then how do we know we are experiencing the concept of what it is? It is through this comparison that we are able to perceive that all things exist. If everybody was tall, then the concept of "tall" would be nonexistant. In other words, if everybody in the entire world was the same height, there would be no "tall", no "short", no in- between. We would all just be. It is not until we see what a short person looks like compared to a tall person, that we can come to the conclusion that tallness exists, and shortness exists. If there were no bad moments in our lives, how would we be able to recognize the good moments? If we never understood what it felt like to NOT be loved, how would we know how wonderful it actually feels TO be loved? There is not a battle going on between good and evil, love and hate. In reality, each concept could not exist without the other. :)
Now to go on (hopefully I'm not getting off track of your question!) I have to add this- I don't beleive that this means that we should practice the absense of love, as often as the presence of love- just because one concept could not exist without the other. No, not at all. I beleive our goal in life should be peace, love, and acceptance with everything we encounter. It is just through this comparison, that we become aware that each concept exists. It is from then on, I beleive, that we are able to choose which concept we desire to base our lives on. Hopefully this all made sense! :)

Wow, good question!
Light certainly cannot exist without dark. What would something be if there were no light waves illuminating it? Certainly not light?
Love, on the other hand, can exist without hate. Hate is something that exists alone and love has nothing to do with it.
My conclusion? Spirituality can exist without the other. Science cannot.

My well-liked band is The grateful lifeless and definite they might exist w/o the Beatles. The lifeless formed basically 5 years after the Beatles, and basically 2 years after their American launch. The Beatles have been nonetheless making pop song, at an analogous time as the lifeless have been making blues rock song. The lifeless and the Beatles have lots of an analogous 50's impacts, and as they have been the two area of the late Sixties musical revolution i'm confident they prompted one yet another yet in genuine time... no longer as a precursor to one yet another. Its extra like the lifeless and the Beatles grew up mutually like musical brothers. My 2nd %. may be Dylan and as quickly as returned Dylan might exist w/o the Beatles... however the Beatles does no longer be an analogous w/o Dylan. only as 'I shagged her rotten, yeah' suggested.

That's kind of a yin-yang kinda question. One is defined by the other. Love is defined by hate to some extend....just as light is not dark, and good is that which is not evil. I always envision them as the opposite ends of a spectrum with shades of all the rest filling in between....love, kinda love (lol), like, sorta like, don't like, dislike....can't stand....hate.
I think yes, you need one for the other to exist.

Well, if one never existed how do you know if you have the remaining?
If there were no darkness there would be no need for the word light. If there were no hate, there would be no need for the word love.
And love and hate are not opposites; love and apathy are. If there was no love, there'd be no need for the wrod apathy, and vice versa.
Am I making sense?

No, love and hate occur together, but not always in equal proportions. Just look at music about love, it often talks about frustration and 'drive(ing) me crazy' so there is a component of hate in love, and in hate there is also some love, usually as a rationalization for the hate felt. Some people may feel they can love and hate with out hate and love, but it is a matter of analyzing the undercurrents in the emotion. Anyhow, just my thought.

That's a really interesting question. I think so, because all love comes from God, and hate is just the absence of love, as darkness is just the absence of light. Yet, if there was no hate or darkness, we woudn't recognize love or light, because it would all be sameness to us.
Even so, we can use a lot less hate and more love!

Yes, i do believe that light can exist without dark and love without hate. Everything would have to be illuminated and everyone would have to love everything equaly. And because eveything is this constant, we probablyt wouldn't even realise it....

In the Modernist thinking of dualism, you are correct that one thing cannot exist without its opposite; however, if you approach this from a monistic or panistic way, you arrive at a very different answer because you start from a very different place.
