No federal, state or local government is willing to give up the enormous tax revenues gleaned from the manufacture, distribution and sale of cigarettes. So, they choose to penalize those who are addicted to a legal substance by taxing them for buying cigarettes and banning them from smoking a legal substance in public places. It's the biggest scam politicians have going...
Besides, if you ban the manufacture, distribution and sale of cigarettes, you would see the same thing that happened during Prohibition: organized crime would benefit. -RKO- 08/25/07

I think the government, all government, including the federal, state, and local governments are doing a poor job of educating children. Take for example the diatribe you posted here. You have misspelled more words than I wish to count, you have several run on sentences, and your punctuation is pretty bad.
On the other hand, if you're in second grade, you did a really nice job on this post for your age.
You can't just take away the cigarettes of 80 million people. That is a pretty large voting block. I don't smoke but I always vote against the people who want to do me a favor and protect me (most democrats/some socialists/some republicans). Making smoking illegal would put a lot of congressmen out of work, give the police a lot of overtime, and be the most ignored law since prohibition.
Once again we need to look at education. Cigarettes are bad but so is being rude, eating too many calories a day, driving a car and talking on a cell phone, getting divorced, etc. If you don't like a smoker than don't associate with them. Treat them as you would someone who smells awful. I don't go over to peoples homes who smoke because their home kind of stinks of tobacco and I don't feel like smelling their homes. I can still like them outside their homes though and will even chat with them outdoors if they're smoking.
Oh by the way you can always use the "check spelling" button before you post messages.

Laws dictating vices rarely have the outcome desired.
There are a host of ills that people enjoy engaging in - it is not the government's place to decide what a person does or does not ingest. Wine, beer, liquor, drugs, cigarettes, fatty food, Red Bull or anything else.
It never works. See: Prohibition.

The goverment wants whats best for them not the people. Tobbaco brings in a huge amount of tax money for them so they would never get rid of it. Just like any other product!

Glad you asked this question. Tobacco sales are funding
health insurance programs nationwide. Additionally the taxes
that are being raked in are in the billions. Do you REALLY
think these 'snakes' running the government want to give up all that money? No way!
You are correct, if tobacco is sooooooooooooo bad then ban it! NEVER HAPPEN!!

Wow, very broad, sweeping statements and questions which bear minimal connection to each other. What were you smoking? Try the patch.

A free will. Other type of weapons of mass destruction is the fast food industry. We need to have some will power.
