A Top Contributor is someone in the Answers community who, through their participation on Answers, has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category. Each Answers user can be a Top Contributor in up to three categories. You can hold Top Contributor badges in up to 3 lowest-level categories at once (except ''Polls & Surveys'' and ' Jokes & Riddles''). Badges come and go on Monday mornings. Yahoo keeps the formula secret, and it's subject to change at any moment. It probably also varies from category to category. Experienced users have formed guesses, but they're just GUESSES. You probably need around: » 30-50 answers per week in the category. » At least 20 ''best answers'' in the category within the last 3 weeks. » 200 or more total points per week (including all answers, Best Answers, votes, and "thumbs up") in the category. » At least a 10% best answers in your chosen category. If your level of participation falls, you will likely lose your badge. Concentrate on participating regularly and giving high-quality answers in just a few categories to earn or keep a badge. I was top contributor(in cooking) for awhile but then I branched out; answering questions in a lot of categories and lost it =(

The more actively you contribute quality answers and best answers to a particular category, the more likely you will earn a badge for your contributions in that category. Just like featured users or category leaders, the badge is another way to honor and feature community members who are actively participating and knowledgeable in particular categories on Answers.

You have to answer a lot of questions in one specific category. Like Top Contributors to "health" or "entertainment" or "travel" answer questions in mostly only those categories.
If you want to be a top contributor, which only means having the honor of the orange badge under your name, then pick a category and answer questions only in that category and soon enough, you'll get the honor.

I'm not sure at all how I got this designation. One day it just appeared....lol! I've been wondering about that ever since. Someone told me it has something to do with answering a certain number of questions in one category over a certain period of time. How many questions and over how much time, I do not know....if you ever figure out the answer, would you let me know? LOL!

I think it means you get to feel 10 people up of you choosing. I think it means you need to get a bunch of "best answers" in a certain category.
