You can rubber band 2 slices of zucchini, sweet potato, beans, cucumber, capsicum, eggplant, carrot, lettuce (like Romaine - not Iceburg), corn, or potato. to rocks (to hold them down) and put one at each end of your aquarium. Make sure you remove any food after a day or two.

You might have to have your tank light off though, to get him to come out.

It won't make him come out in the daytime, but there is a red light used by aquarists that enjoy nocturnal species that is invisible to the fish so you will be able to see him in a darkened tank.
Did you not know that plecos are nocturnal when you bought him? You should do a little homework before you buy a fish.

If you leave the light off during the day there is a greater chance he will come out. You can also try using a light with more of an actinic spectrum which tends to give off more of a blue color which is alot less likely to send them into hiding. You can also try hanging some seaweed or some other form of vegetation from a vegetable clip which may lore them out of their hiding spot. hope i helped.

Try using an indirect, incandescent lighting system. It'll keep the tank a little darker and give you enough light to see the little beauty strut it's stuff.

If you put a small piece of zucchini in the tank, you may find him coming up to chew on it, even during the day. At least that's what I do with my plecko (sp?).
