i travel for work constantly and don't want to use a cell phone or a landline to connect.i use wi-fi when its available ,but what else is there? like when i'm in the middle of nowhere. and whats the cost? and is it any good?

There are cards for your laptop , from various companies , like Verizion , and AT&T that give you wireless most everywhere..well..it might not work in some places , but ,it should in most...as for prices..I'm not sure..maybe depends if you have a plan with them or not?

if you buy a pc-card this is only to connect if wi-fi is actually available. A broadband card would make your laptop connected to the internet like a phone has service. Chances are if you just bought a laptop, the wireless card is already built in and you don't need to buy a pc-card.

I would check out "Air Cards" Most Cell phone providers have them, You will be paying between 30.00-70 usd a month for it

Bottom line here is you need some way to connect.
When you are out in the toolies your only I repeat ONLY option is cell phone from one of the major carriers.

there is broadband availible through companies like, Sprint, AT&T, Clearwire, etc. there are a lot. but it gets expensive.
