Boomtown Rats were at there peak when Rat Trap was released. They were among a number of Irish Punk bands of the late 1970's and early 80's and RatTrap would have been around 1979.

Some of the other Irish Punk bands of that time you might also have heard of include The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and U2, Yes U2.

Fantastic song! i think the era was late 70's and re-released in the 80's.
The 80's by-passed great songs and instead gave us complete pap from David Bowie (hunky dory and the spiders from mars were simply brilliant though) and the insufferable Elton John (although sweet painted lady is a classic).
