My husband's friend is now staying with us. (on our couch).

He is eating meals with us, watching cable tv, has access to the internet.

I feel he should contribute something financially, but want to know what sounds reasonable.

thanks in advance for any input!

If this is in the wrong category, which one would you suggest?

well, first off...it kinda depends what the reason is. if he's staying with you for an emotional problem, then no rent. but if its simply because he's waiting to buy his own house, then charge about $150 a month. he should respect you enough to pay that much! i don't think this was quite the category, but i guess it would go under....financial and business. but he is a friend who you don't want to offend by asking to pay rent, so i guess both categories are good!

You and your husband will never have much privacy with him around, and why did your husband allow that guy to come in your home? He's invaded your privacy as a couple. I hope he has a job. Forget about being reasonable. Tell your husband to give him two weeks, then he has to leave. In the meantime, since he's using the facilities and such, ask for about $200 to start.

Tell your husband to talk to his friend, and tell his friend to save up his money and find an apt in a couple of month.

That's something the 3 of you need to sit down and discuss, based on your household expenses.
