i rewired the internet from the cable modem thing

If you are removing the router and connecting directly to the internet modem you'll need to configure your computer to use the IP address and subnet mask you HAD configured your router with.

If they are automatically assigned by your ISP, then make sure your network card is setup to use DHCP.

You have to unplug the power from the modem. Switching off does not work. then connect the computer but do not switch it on. Plug in the modem power, wait for it to sync and then power the machine. any time you change the equipment connected to the modem you need to do this.

You have to remain connected to internet to recieve it.
