The guppies in my turtle tank have ick. I went to the pet store and bought CopperSafe to treat my tank. The lady told me that if I take my turtle out for a few hours while/after I treat my tank, that it will be okay to put him back in there. I am concerned, he is a hatchling mud turtle. Will it be okay to treat the fish and then put the turtle back in there around 8 hours later?

I do not use ick medicine at all because off the problems it causes with certian creatures in a tank. I have several kinds of invertabrates and some fish that are intolerable to ich medicine.

I just turn my heater up to 83-84 degrees and leave it there for at least two days after the ich is visiblely gone. This is also much less stressful for the sick fish. The medicine for it seems to stress some of them out even more.

Do not put your turtles back in the tank. Copper will stay present in aquarium water for up to a month unless you filter it out with fresh carbon or do a water change. Turtles and guppies is a bad idea. The turtle waste will never permit the water quality to be where it should be for guppies and they will most likely die. That's if the turtles dont eat them first.

Not a good idea - you will need to treat the fish for ich for up to 14 days to rid them of it, and copper isn't the best method (something with malachite green and formalin is preferable, along with a increase in temperature). You'll need to be housing them separately for a few weeks.

If the guppies were intended as feeders, it's better to purchace a few and breed these yourself to avoid such problems in the future.

I'm not sure what "ick" is, but the chemicals will most likely stay, so put him in a temporary tank.
