I just purchased my house and it already had the system installed. I called Brinks, but they won't help me unless I purchase monitoring.
I don't want monitoring.

If Brinks won*t help you can your contact the previous owners and ask them for help. Maybe ask your realtor to contact them for you. Once they give you the code or have them reset it, then you can reset it again so no one else knows it.

Brinks Home Security Systems Manual

Brinks is one of the largest home security companies in the world. Monitoring is where the money is. They have proprietary system so nobody else can use their systems unless you let them monitor it. Powering down the system for a few days will accomplish nothing. The memories in these systems are not power sensitive, and they cannot be re-programmed by anyone other than a Brinks technician.

The hard part of a security system is installing all the switches, components, and wires. The panel, where all of the electronics, phone dialers, power supply and battery are located, is not that expensive, and all wired components can be re-wired to a new panel that is not proprietary.

You can purchase a new and better control panel and replace the Brinks panel with one of your choosing. You can then have it monitored or not - your choice.

In part I agree with answer one. I suspect no one is under that obligation however.

My curiosity is in why have the system without...

It may be that in your world a "Sign" announcing to the world that Brinks is on guard, might deter crime; but in my world it hardly matters; if someone wants in.

Beyond that; I suspect you could go higher up in the company; but/and they in fact may have had a contract on the system, with the former owner that wasn't transferable anyway?

Long ago I discontinued to have my system monitored; but still have the sign. When it was monitored I enjoyed a decent discount on home owners insurance. I also have to wonder how anyone here might have a very personal; individual "code" to your particular system. HOPEFULLY there are millions of individual combinations out there.

i would think to reset that every system has a battery back up to hold codes and such.....much like a battery in a computer.....find that small round battery and remove it and let set for 24 hours and reinstall the battery.....should clear the mem......

Isn't that something. An unknown person wants a master code to a home security system and someone gives it to him. Great.

Call the police department. They will help you get in.
