we have some now but its old and has holes in it which makes it hard to move arround on. do they make ones that aren't made out of cheap plastic?

The ones with the holes are made to use on carpet. You put the smooth side facing up and the sharp points face downwards into your rug and cling to it.
Check with any office supply store and get their advice on what type you need for the floor you have. Mine is made of hard plastic. I don't know if another type is available or not.

Check out Staples, Office Depot, and any other Office Supply places in your area. Home Depot might even have them.
