I don't think his position on those issues is the problem...
he can stand where he wants to on those...
I feel differently of course, but I think enough people in America feel "his way" that he has some support.
The big violation of our constitution is called "Faith Based Initiatives" and THAT he is definitely guilty of....
When he made it possible for our tax money (which was intended for education) to be funneled into churches instead of schools, that is where he became truly disrespectful of our history and practice as a people...

A religious theocracy is the goal, the gay thing and stem cell debate is just propaganda to get those who do not think their religion through sign up for a religion they would not support if they knew the real agenda.
If there really was a belief that folk were human from conception the old graveyards would be overflowing with the many miscarriages and early child deaths that were the majority of pregnancies.
The Dominionists want you to believe that anything secular is Atheist, when it is just that, like a chess game, religion is not involved. Folk of any religion can play, but you can't blame the Atheists, if you bishops don't get more powerful moves than anyone else's, just because you are Christian.
Just wrecking society by dumbing Education, and Science, and pumping billions in corrupt " faith based" programs with no accountability, bad as that is, their darker agenda is very much scarier.
Their intention is to conflate normal crimes with thought "crimes" and "religious crimes" like homosexuality, apostasy, lust, even recalcitrant children, and those who advance "false religions" like any that is not theirs, and kill by public stoning any that they can catch. By their definitions most Americans would be killed.
Fredrick Clarkson has done much research and has a good description here:

Umm... what about the Secular Humanists, which by the way is a religion, trying to push their agenda of stem cell research gay marraige, etc. upon us. It is not the Christians who are trying to change American Culture...
Why don't you read the Constitution, it is quite plain on what it means about the so-called Separation of Church and State.
Edit: Stem Cell Research is not necessarily a religious issue. I for one am all for stem cell research... but I'd rather keep government out of it.

CJ - do you really think that if what you say s true that the ACLU wouldn't be suing Bush? Not funding stem cell research is not the same as prohibiting it. Clinton didn't fund stem cell research either. And gay marriage is a state issue, not a federal issue. Perhaps you should spend a little more time studying up on these issues.

Good point!! Another example is Abstinence-Only provisions that are detrimental in preventing unwanted pregnancies and the spread of HIV/AIDS and STDs. The short answer is that it is the way the right-wing religious coalitions exert their influence on party politics.
Here's what a real conservative had to say about it:

Why should be involved in funding stem cell research? We would not be having such discussions that might involve religion if the government kept to its constitutional mandate.
I also wonder why you want to limit people from taking religion into account. Where do you stop limiting stuff?

You say what happened to the seperation of church and state, and I'd say its just fine. A political leader can choose his positions based on his freedom of religion too; just because these positions are not yours does not mean he or she is violating the church and state doctrine.

You are Bushophobic and making up lies. All laws against murder, theft, and rape are based on religious doctrine. Will you legalize all that because of your mythical sepation of church and state?

What religious doctrine? This man is more of a false Christian and a traitor to God than Judas Iscariot.

easy: votes
He gets the rich votes from one angle (economic) and the poor, religious nut votes from the other angle (social).
I sincerely doubt his own religiosity though.
