In Britain?In the USA?Elsewhere?

Clearly not I think. Apparently the ground in Britain is so wet at the moment, that even the slightest bit of rain might cause more flooding. And still the government talks about it being okay to be building cheap housing on flood plains. I think the problem will only get worse with global warming. Maybe we should follow an example set by Holland. They have built floating houses that are anchored to the ground and in the event of a flood will happily float in 5 metres of water.

In the U.S., the government spends more on welfare slugs than on defense. Less government and more personal responsibility would have solved most of these "Issues" long ago. But instead, we look to big brother government to wipe our butts and noses.
I lost a great deal (a barn and all of its contents and a lot of live stock) in Ivan. In New Orleans, the damage didn't come until well AFTER Katrina. I am still cleaning up the mess (Sept '04). We didn't wait for the government to come in and "rescue" us... But allo you hear about is Katrina this, New Orleans that... Pitty, they were given money years before to up date the levees. Where'd the money go? So, now it's the mid west and the Thames. If you are stupid enough to build below sea level or on a flood plain it should be up to the tax payers to fix your sorry buttheaded mistakes?

There isn't a lot you can do to stop flooding. Most of the stuff that has been done is sort of the same as telling you to hide under your desk in case of a nuclear attack. The truth is, all of these so called protections, such as the pumps in New Orleans are there only to offer a false sense of security, one cannot control billions of gallons of water.

Well in the US the Goverment has done all it can. When they try to build a dam or levee, the left leaning enviromentalist wackos file suit to protect the wetlands...then when it floods they blame the people they sued. Only in America.

In the UK they have been working on it for years and are doing there best, if you see jobs for the environment agency, they are always after flood engineers.

The problem is the unpredicatble weather. Lets be honest the way it is going, we could be having tidal waves inland soon.

Sure they are. They are encouraging everyone to build in a floodplain and then want you to buy government insurance to bail your sorry *** out when the flood comes.

They ARE doing what they know best. They are taking and taxing for it and spending / wasting it somewhere else, hoping the insurance industry will bail them out again.
