The problem with the current liberal movement in the U.S. is that in it's attempt to aid the poor and the under represented portions of society, this liberal movement winds up working to undermine individual responsibility, individual rights, and equal opportunity for all, the fundamental philosophy of western liberalism. When specific groups are given higher priority above others, equality for all gets thrown out the window and abandoned. The rights of minorities and those identified as oppressed should not be placed above the rights of others, specifically individuals who seek to take responsibility for their own actions and to assert their own individual rights. The new cult of victimization needs to be reconsidered, and the unfairness of this concept needs to be made clear to all. By ending this rift in western liberalism, the liberal movement could be reinvigorated, and western liberals could begin to defend themselves again.

thank you for stating your question well and with good manners.
(Unlike the hateful leftist that gave you the first knee-jerk reactionary answer).
Your view of the situation is both realistic and balanced. It represents the "moderate" point of view that is totally missed by those who are EXTREMISTS on BOTH sides of the issues.
You first antagonist was correct in pointing toward the flaws of the EXTREME right.
Free Enterprise is the grease that has made America both wealthy and great. It promotes education, hard work, productuvity and prosperity.
Laissez-faire capitalism, on the other hand gives just rise to the protestations from the neo-liberals and can serve to add justification to the specious anti-freedom arguments they spawn. Laissez-faire capatalism MUST be capped by demanding RESPONSIBLE production from those who create the economic engine that has served us so well.
The EXTREME Left and nearly all the candidates they back are potential Marxist/Socialists tyrants.
Unfortunately, I see little evidence that those supporting the slide into Totalarian government through Socialistic heavy taxation, gun and property control, and limits on freedom of speech, even have the mental capacity to understand what they are promoting.
Those behind that movement understand, but they are potential TYRANTS.
WARNING! NEVER vote for anyone advocating tax increases, property control, gun control or limits on freedom of speech. You would be voting for a tyrant that will take your Constitutionally guaranteed powers and shift those powers to a Central Government leaving you wth NO defense.
THAT is what they want.

You describe yourself as moderate liberal in your profile. You question seems to lean more toward conservatism with a bit of a selfish streak. It's easy to see "one group being given special priorities" when you have never been the one on the other side of the locked door.
The cult of victimization is perpetuated by the trial lawyers who profit from actually victimizing the victims and the corporations against whom they bring suit - the only ones getting rich are the "King of Torts" types of lawyers. They sure aren't interested in having their "industry" regulated!
Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Conservative - real debate and real problem solving will happen when we quit taking pot shots at each other and turn our ammunition on solving the problems. Whenever one is diminished in society, we are all diminished - conversely, when one who has been downtrodden is raised up, we are all raised up.
I don't know all the answers. I don't know (right now) if I agree with you or not. I do know that I am grateful that we can have this debate and for our freedoms. I am glad to know there is another moderate liberal around - I suspect there are many of us. This forum makes it hard to take a stand in the middle where sanity and kindness resides - the radicals on both sides hate you for that.
Ah well - - - - - God bless America, Americans and all our flaws!

Problem is people like you incorporate assisting those who need help with undermining individual responsibility. There are those who are trying, but sometimes need some help. What? You walk away from some of YOUR relatives if something happened like a fire to their home, their car breaking down and need a ride to work, or an unexpected injury from work? That would be undermining individual responsibility, or the individual rights of an act of God?
I pray nothing happens to YOU, and you run into someone just like YOU...

To be honest there is nothing we can do about terrorists because as an Indian I always watched Pakistan helping Terrorists and Indian Mafia's Like Daud Ibrahim(who is also accused for Mumbai blasts in 1993 and is a suspect of Mumbai attack 26/11/2008). So if Pakistan is so clean why dont they handover all criminals to India like the Ibrahim and some other Terrorists.

The attempts to aid the poor among us should not be an issue.
We should ask our self's what would Jesus do?
You should fear government above all other things in our society, our government has taken away some of the rights that the founding fathers gave us.
Libs have to developer a backbone before anything positive happens.

Well, I kind of feel safe with a 5 time college deferment draft dodger in the White House to do the fighting for me. That's Dick Cheney by the way.
And I also think a whole 3 months in the Texas Air National Guard by the President is plenty of training for the President and his faithful side kick Dick Cheney to go on night re-con around the outskirts of Baghdad. Oh, and keep the lights on and carry a flashlight.
Thanks

You're quite right Poet. We have a culture of people looking to become victims, along with an attitude that the minority is going to regulate what the majority will do and think. No more majority rules. Political correctness dictated by CNN and others will determine our behavior and patriotism.

The current liberal movement could not care less about aiding the poor or under-represented.
Leading liberals in America are all filthy rich, and their policies are designed to preserve their wealth and power.
The question really is "who are dupes?" and "who are the operatives?"
Anybody who really wants to help individuals should do so by endorsing a limited government which exists solely to enforce the Bill of Rights and to protect the boarders. That's still plenty enough for a bureaucracy to handle.

Oh c'mon man... it's all about peace dude. Let's go down to the coffee shop and let me read you some of my latest poems and you can beat on my new bongos in the background. You gotta dig peace... war is just wrong man.
For every cartridge shell that passes through the republican barrel of evil ,
that money could be spent on education man...and arts, man...and social programs to enrich the lives of the less unfortunate, man. Those funds should be used to represent the oppressed innocent men on death row ...so everyone can walk free. Don't be so mean spirited man... come smoke a bowl and free your mind. Hey, you got a cigarette?

No, not for Freedom.
The Communists took over the Liberalism Movement and the Democrat Party during the 60's and 70's.
The Democrat Party will NEVER escape the Yoke of Communism.
(And Freedom & the USA will pay dearly. Just wait and see in 2009.)
