There is also a veterinary technologist, which means the tech has a bachelor's degree instead of an associate's degree (thats' what i'm getting).

Most likely the difference is the state. I live in NY and when I graduated, I was a LVT...New York required a license...I moved to CT after graduation and CT did not offer a license..just a certification. So they had a CVT at that time.
As long as you are talking about someone who graduated from a college program and completed the state requirements for the program, either one can be correct.
