I never used to, but last week when I was there I noticed they now have a tip jar out in front of the cash register - and it's not subtle, it's labelled "TIPS" in big letters. I stop about once a week, and do takeout.
If there is anyone here who works at subway - do you get the regular minimum wage, or the lower minimum for tipped employees? Is it standard to expect tips?

Generally speaking, fast-food workers don't get tipped. The whole idea behind fast food is getting food not only fast, but cheap. Especially when compared to a casual dining restaurant, where some dishes may be comparable, people often choose the fast food, so they don't have to tip. What do barbers have to do with fast food? Pepsodent.

Subway employees do not expect tips. In fact, if you see a tip jar at a Subway, not only are they tacky, they are violating Subway policies.

It is against the Subway company's policy for the employees to accept tips.

You could tip them I suppose if you have the extra funds and you got service that was worthy of a tip - but it's not neccesary and not expected.
I will say that I work in the restaurant business but I am not a waitress or someone that you would normally tip - I just do customer service and answer telephones and cash people out. I get paid well but my job can be very hectic and stressful and I do go out of my way to please my customers - so when I do get an occasional tip - even it's just a dollar - it's the gesture that I appreciate - that someone notices that I'm working hard and trying my best to keep everyone happy.
So while it's not neccesary or expected like I said - it can occasionally make someone's day if you think you got great service and have the extra money.

No, should I be? I hope not because I go there alot and never do.
They sort of just stand there it's not like they have to walk around and wait on more then one person at a time.
Not to mention, alot of times when I order, I get a veggie sub, they look at me like I'm stupid because i'm not getting meat on it.
It's not like a veggie isnt on the menu.
Besides they just sky rocketed there prices at the one I go to.

no, they get paid to make sandwiches or salads. Its not like they did something special, in a manner like a waitress refills my drinks or ask me for dessert. Now, if you ask should I tip cause they wash their hands and wears glove for my health, thats a different story!
