USA gold-tone dollar coins are still legal tender. They still work in vending machines too. :-)
I routinely request a mix of them and Susie B's and crisp dollar bills for tips at restaurants.
The gold-tone coins are particularly nice in the mouth of origami dollar-bill frogs (which can also be made with $2 bills or higher)

There are no coins that the U.S. has minted that is not legal tender. The coins from 1793 to 2007 are spendable, of course some are worth more as collector items. The Sacagawea dollar has been minted since 2000, some years they were only available from the mint I believe in rolls and bags. they will still be minted along with the new presidential dollars.

Yes, but why would someone want to spend them, when they're worth MORE than the face value as a collector coin? That's not smart. You either sell them as a collectible and get MORE real money than face value, or keep them. Those are the only two smart ways to deal with them.
