set them free, for the love of God, set them free! People do not belong to other people.
Not about a husband or wife, but along the same lines...
And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of
Children."
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit,
not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you
with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that
is stable.

Well..... There is a poem:
If you Love it, Set it Free
If you love something, set it free.
If it comes back, It will always be yours.
If it doesn't come back, it was never yours to begin with.
___________________________________________
(This was added later, I like the top part the best).
But, if it just sits in your living room
Messes up your stuff
Eats your food
Uses your telephone
Takes your money
And doesn't appear to realize that you have set it free.....
(You either married it or gave birth to it).
______________________________________
But I guess there is some truth to the addition.

Think of this analogy - if you pick up a handful of sand and hold it very tight the sand trickles through your fingers and you end up with very little. But hold it in your cupped palm lightly and most of the sand stays there until you release it. what you hold on to tightly you loose, but what you release stays with you.

God gave us two hands, one to hold and the other to be held, when you hold onto two hands you hang on for dear life and when your hands are held you are trapped. It is about an equal partnership everything else is fear.
