i try not to give lengthy answers just because it might not get read. but some questions need long answers so that is when i give a good long reply. if it does not get read then i probably wouldn't get best answer and i like to get best answer so i can get lots of points. i don't know what i would do with all those points but maybe someday they will be worth something. if not then oh well what can ya do? some questions only require a yes or no so that is when i give a one word reply. but then there is the part where you have yto put in your source so that alone can lenghten a reply. so really it all depends on the type of question. is there a particular question you have in mind? if so go ahead and ask and i will do my best not to give you a long reply. but if you prefer a long reply then let me know and i will do my best to accomodate that as well. after all that is why i am on here. to answer the questions to the best of my ability.
back to your question. when i ask a question and it gets a lengthy reply i do not read it. to time consuming. lol j/k they take the time to answer my question i give it the respect it deserves

Traditional shoelaces were made of leather, cotton, jute, hemp or other materials used in the manufacture of rope. Modern shoelaces often incorporate various synthetic fibers, which are generally more slippery and thus more prone to coming undone than those made from traditional fibers. However, synthetic shoelaces often look better and wear longer.

Shoelaces with a flat cross-section are generally easier to hold and stay tied more securely than those with a round cross-section. Very wide flat laces are often called "fat laces". Leather shoelaces with a square cross-section, which are very common on boat shoes, are notoriously prone to coming undone. Shoelaces can be coated, either in the factory or with aftermarket products, to increase friction and help them stay tied.

There are also various elasticized shoelaces:

Traditional "Elastic" laces look identical to normal laces, and can simply be tied and untied as normal. They may also come with a permanent clip so that they can be fastened invisibly.
"Knotty" laces have a series of "fat" sections, which restrict movement through eyelets. These can be used to adjust tension throughout the lacing area. These laces can be tied or the ends can be left loose.
"Twirly" laces are like a tight elastic helix, which can simply be pulled tight without requiring a knot.
Elastic laces both make the lacing more comfortable as well as allowing the shoe to be slipped on and off without tying or untying, which makes them a popular choice for children, the elderly and athletes.

Even though shoelaces have become the norm in shoe fastening, Velcro strips are also quite popular. They are considered by many to be the "lazy man's shoelace".

The small plastic or metal sheath on the end of shoelaces that keeps the twine from unraveling is called an aglet (or aiglet).
