Can I just change the pipes on my 650 V-Star and put louder ones or do I have to do other things to the bike. Will It mess up the bike? Help me out?

If you aren't sure, always ALWAYS take it to the dealership where you bought it, or to a reliable motorcycle shop. They'll help you pick out the ones that are compatible and sound the way you want. I speak unfortunately from experience, a trashed brake assembly and over $1000 in labor and repairs because I let somebody who "knew what he was doing" mess with my bike. Besides which, having it done at the dealership gives you the ability and right to have it fixed at no charge if anything goes wrong, something you won't have if you try to do it yourself. I have a V-star 1100 Classic, and had Cobra pipes installed...VROOM

you will have to adjust the air fuel mix. free flowing pipes cause it to run leaner. Also, you should add a high volume air filter as well to get the best results. If carburated, you re jet, if fuel injected it gets more complicated and requires the addition of either a new software download, or the addition of a race tuner or fuel pak to set things up right. Also, remember that know that the EPA is involved in motorcycles, changing or modifying the exhaust carries up to a $10,000.00 fine.

Exhust pipes are formed and calabrated for back pressure on your engine. When changing pipes on my bikes, I upgrade the carbs and rejet the engine(dealer service) to maintain correct back pressure. Without the correct back pressure bike will not have the same get up and go. Sometimes it can be difficult to get around large (semi) traffic.

If you just change your exhaust you sould be fine. If you are worried about running lean, the rejet the carbs, or get a programmer it it is EFI. If you leave the jetting stock you should be ok though.
