You breast feed whenever baby is hungry; it's that easy. And the more baby takes in, the more milk is made. There is no specific time or amount, you just go with what your baby needs.

Women should breastfeed for at least a week for the colostrum. But its up to the mother,as well as the baby, how long. It's recommended for 6 months and go as far as 2yrs(you can do it longer, but most mothers don't like the inconvenience).Sometimes the mother dries up early and then sometimes the baby rejects the breast. But if the baby does reject it,there is always pumping and feeding the breast milk by bottle.

I recommend breastfeeding on demand(the more women feeds the more milk she makes),some mothers do by schedule which would be 8-10 times a day.

At first, most women have to breastfeed every 2-2.5hrs. After the baby reaches about 3mths, you breastfeed every 3-4hrs. By 6 mths, it's still every 3-4hrs but not at night, most babies are sleeping through the night by this time.
As for timing, 15 minutes on the right side, then burp. Fifteen minutes on the left side and then burp. The goal is to give a full feeding, keep the infant awake while eating. Otherwise, he/she will want to eat every 15minutes!!!
Great book "Babywise" by Gary Ezzo...both of you should read it.

When they are newborn is about 30 minutes or so every 2-3 hours. it tapers off once they eats solids at aroung 5 months or so. As they get older, they are able to drink more efficiently and the time gets shorter
I BF my son till he was 16 months and towards the end it was about 2- 3 times a day for about 10 minutes

I breast fed 2 babies to the age of 12 months.

I breast fed about 40 minutes -hungry little guys
so thats 20 on each side

And I did it every 2 - 3 hrs.

You should check the pee pee diapers to see that they are getting enough liquid. They should pee like every hour. And don't make them feed or they will projectile vomit it out if their little tummy is full. Respond to their needs.

I don't have the slightest idea. I feed him on demand, so some days he might only nurse 5 or 6 times, other days he might want to "snack" nurse 10 to 12 times. Sometimes he nurses for 2 minutes, other times 30 minutes. It depends on the time of day or night, if he's had solids, etc...

jill is absolutely correct. My first nursed 45 minutes at a time, while my second only nursed for 5 minutes MAX but every 3 hours at the longest between. If you try to do anythign other than what baby's needs require you run teh risk of messign up your supply and in teh end NOT being able to nurse at all. Its all supply and demand.

I breastfed all 5 of my kids. I never scheduled or timed them. I fed on demand..which means I fed them when they were hungry or to help get them to sleep. They were 100% healthy and happy. Good luck and remember its easier than you think. you cant over feed a breastfed baby. They cant get overweight.

whenever the baby is hungry, for the most part. One son ate almost constantly and my daughter didn't want to eat-had to coax her. I nursed most of mine for over a year.
