beardo got it. the simple predicate is "finished" the complex predicate would be "finished the game in a short time" i remember what the predicate is by saying to myself "subject, predicate" and i know what a subject is, so i can find out what the predicate is.

A predicate is the portion of a clause, excluding the subject, that expresses something about the subject.
