valve clearence can increase due to wear & metal compression of the components also the old 900 kaws would sometimes spit out a shim if you over reved them & got valve bounce or flutter, I suppose a 750 would do it too. anyway its normal to find some tight & some loose when you check.

Hi. Lots of good input so far, but no one has really answered your question.
I should clear up a misconception you are having. Valves (sic) do not get quieter over time. If anything they will become more noticeable with usage. There are some decent reasons why given in some of the other responses.
GSX-R750, what year? Me thinks that you are about to find out why you should've gotten a little more street friendly ride. That is a shim and bucket style valve-train that is beyond a pain in the *** to tune. Leave it banging around long, and you will be obliged to put a new top end in your bike. Have the valves adjusted, and ground, at the shop; and be prepared to stare down a $1000 repair bill. Oh ya. You should adjust the valves according to the manufacturer's recommendation...EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE THE OIL!
Part of the problem with a market that demands race performance for a street M/C. You have a very delicate, high-maintenance, fussy little machine there that needs CONSTANT attention. Too loose valves will beat the hell out of the cam. Change the cam-timing in that power plant, just a fly-hair, and your on your way to a bike that won't do anything but foul plugs, and fry your electrical system.

Valve clearances can get tight, or loose.
Cam journals and lobes wearing down, will increase the clearance.
Tappet adjusters wearing, will increase it.
Valve stems getting hit so many times, will wear down and increase the clearance.
Carbon build up between the valve seats and valve faces will increase it.
From the valve faces slamming into the valve seats, they will become indented, ware down, allow the valve to move higher into the head and decrease the clearance - hence, tight or leaking valves.

Where did you get the idea that valves get tighter and quieter over time? Cams, valve stems and lifters (If you have them) all wear and make things looser.
Adjust them right and switch to synthetic oil. Once I did that, my valves never needed adjusting again.

If your valves are recessing into the cylinder head they will get tighter, but if the cam or rocker arms are wearing the valves will gain clearance.
