where is the ROUTER on a computer where do i find it

the router is the thing ur modem connects to and then the router connects to all of the PC's in ur house. if ur lookin for ur network card in the back of ur comp look for a thing that looks like a phone jack

A router is a device which directs traffic to one of more than one external links. If it doesn't have more than one place to send stuff then it's a switch. If it just connects everything then it's a hub.

Routers run routing algorithms like OSPF and IGMP, you'll never see that in your Linksys or D-Link box.

Most houses don't have routers, but marketing people will tell you anything to sell you stuff. Routers live in network opperation centers. Cisco, HP, IBM, Nortel and the like make routers. Big companies, telcos and ISPs buy them.

The nearest one you'd find would be in your ISP at the far end of your DSL or cable link.
