The long block gennerally has a block, crank, rods, pistons, timing cover with heads attached.
A short block has a basic block, crank, rods and pistons.

A long block comes with cylinder heads while a short block does not.

Long block is pretty much built like a crate engine,short block you gotta do it.Cause they don't come with much,it's a basic block whith heads or head.http://summitracing.com
